I was talking to former Erie Lackawanna CMO Dave Huggins, earlier this week,

and asked him about two of the threads that had been kicking around on this
list. Here is a synopsis of what he said.

Q. Why was GP7 1233 rebuilt when it was badly damaged?
A. Although in later years the EL had some F units out of service
They were not strapped with surplus power, and in particular
No GP7s were ever removed from service right up to April Fools'
Day 1976. When the 1233 was rebuilt it got a 26n brake installed
making it another Erie jeep that could now be mixed into the
Pool working the S & U with ex Lackawanna geeps, and making it
compatible with all other road power. This 26N brake conversion
was done to the GP 9s earlier on.
He also added they considered giving the 1233 a chopped nose, but the

amount of piping that would have had to
be
altered negated that thought.

Q. Was the engine from the 823 used on 1060.
A. The engine used in the 1060 was a spare engine they had. He thought
that all the E8s were on the property on CR day, but could not swear
to the actual existence of the 823. That had him thinking but he
couldn't
come up with a definite answer. I asked if the 1060 was consider a
success, and he said yes, that they used it at Gang Mills mostly, and

that they
       liked it there.
