(erielack) DL&W yard at North Arlington NJ

I am interested in historical information pertaining to a DL&W yard
formerly located in North Arlington, NJ. It was located along the
Harrison-Kingsland Connecting Branch of the DL&W just north of
Belleville Pike and the Hudson-Bergen County line, about 2 miles south
of the Kingsland car shops. It was bounded by Sawmill Creek (the county
line on the south, the Harrison-Kingsland Connector on the east, and
Porete Ave. on the west. At the north end the yard tracks converged
into the Harrison-Kingsland connector. The location was originally
meadow land and was filled in about 1939-40. The yard was built in the
early 40s but seems to be already out of service by the early 50s (based
on aerial photos). The name "40 Acres" may have been associated with
this yard. Does anyone know why this yard was built, or what purpose it
served during its brief lifetime?
There was another smaller yard located about one-half to 1 mile further
north. This smaller yard was apparently associated with a small
quarrying operation on the face of the bluff. Any information anyone
could supply would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike McGowan
