White Diamond???? Erie steam was lettered in Yellow!!! White diamond on
hoppers. A friend and fellow "O" scaler, Bob Garrelts, is building a
could-have-been "O" scale Erie 4-8-4 and numbering it in the 3500 series.
Seems a feasible progression from the Berks and their numbers. It's
doubtful that the Lackawanna had any aspirations towards articulateds since
they had some of the most powerful 4-8-4's in the country, which seemed to
be able to handle ALL of the Company's motive power needs. FT's provided
the Company with two easily recognizable advantages. (1) They were more
efficient to operate, and (2) they allowed for a HUGE reduction in payroll.
The day the FT's hit Scranton 50 fireman were fired and 50 engineers were
demoted to firemen, not to mention the number of shop personell that were
given the boot.
