>From the pages of the "Morning Press," Bloomsburg, Pa. the week of
January 9 -> 15, 1970. The following was reprinted in their weekly
"Memories" section in the January 2, 2000 edition:
Articles and editorials mour the passing of the last inter-city
passenger train servicing the area, as "The Lake City" pulls out of the
D.L.& W. station at Scranton.
The turn-of-the-century transporation palace was served by more than
85 trains a day at its height, including runs along the Susquehanna from
Sunbury, Danville, Berwick, Plymouth and Kingston, with connections to
chicago and New York and points between.
The Lackawanna's extensive long-distance passenger train fleet
included the world-famous "Phoebe Snow," a steam train which served as a
symbol of the railway whose locomotives burned clean Pennsylvania
anthracite, enabling the "Phoebe" to remain "white as snow."
