Re: (erielack) Re: Phoenica, NY

The tourist operation was the Catskill Mountain
Railroad, which ran (runs?) excursions from Mount
Pleasant 3 miles west to Bridge Street in Phoenicia.
The Delaware and Ulster Rail Ride operates out of
Arkville, NY, and runs excusions east to Highmount and
west to Halcottsville. Both of these tourist
operations utilize the former Ulster and Delaware
Branch of the New York Central, as already pointed
out. The Ulster and Delaware Railroad once extended
108 miles from Kingston Point on the Hudson River to
Oneonta, and it was intruumental in opening up the
Catskills to tourism and other development. The
Ulster and Delaware was family held until being sold
to the NYC in 1932. (Sorry there is no EL conent
here. Interested person can e-mail me directly.)
