(erielack) Re: Erielack Digest V2 #579

Sorry about all of the fuss about the government but up until now I have not
mentioned BRICKS. I will now attempt to tie them all together once and for
all. Take all of the politicians(i.e. the real robber barons), make them
"quarry" and make bricks. Then have them rebuild all of the great Erie and
Lackawanna railroad stations(with the bricks that they quarry and make) that
were torn down due to the high taxes imposed by them. Then have them line
up, and shoot half of them (someone mentioned a balanced discussion). The
other half will become very good honest men. Okay, enough kidding around.
I'm done. I just don't sit idly by while men who have had such a positive
effect on human existence get trashed. The Erie railroad had followed
William C. Redfield's vision almost to the T and he (at the time of his
vision) had not even seen a train. Eleazar Lord 3 time president of the Erie
had pushed to get it built and got donations from his friends while spending
almost all of his own money. He knew that first, the line would make money,
and second, it would improve the lives of everyone it touched. Who thwarted
the construction of the railroad? People like Martin VanBuren who thought
the railroad was unfair competition to the canals. So remember, if you agree
that it is right for government to make things "fair" in the business world,
you would also agree (if you had any integrity) that the railroads should
have been built to only operate in the winter while the canals were frozen.
