You've stirred some faint memories with this thread. I do remember
*somewhere* reading about this proposal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I
think it was part of the Van Sweringen brothers' grand plan. I recall
seeing, as Schuyler mentioned, plans for the new line from Meadville to
Cleveland and thence by existing rails to Toledo and then south to a
proposed new connecting track from the C&O rails north of Marion to the Erie
mains west of the Marion yards. The blueprint drawing that I saw, which I
believe is now in the archives at Marion Union Station, was dated from the
1920's. Curious twist of events....CSX has added that very connection track
recently, only closer to the Marion proper than was originally planned. Just
my two cents worth......
