Re: (erielack) O&W Under Thruway

This isn't the only NYS Thruway overpass for the O&W; west of Utica NY the
ROW of the Rome Branch is clearly visible and the overpass remains, despite
this part being abandoned in '57.

In recent past it looks as though you may be able to hike this - a small
wooden bridge to cross a stream or gully of some sort is visible from the
eastbound lanes, down on the ROW. Something to explore when checking out
the DL&W remains around Utica...

Speaking of which, did the DL&W or EL operate any pieces of the O&W other
than the bits in Utica the NYS&W still serves? With so much parallel track
through from Utica to around Norwich, it seems reasonable some industries
might have been important enough to continue to see rail service.

The Thruway bridge over the O&W is still intact and this time of year you
can make out the right of way easily. As I recall, this part of the O&W
was operated for several years after 1957 by the NYC to reach a customer.
