Re: (erielack) Riverossi Erie Lackawanna Passenger Car sets

It seems to me that Rivarossi (or maybe IHC) makes (or made) a glue-on plate
allowing the installation of Kadees without a lot of fuss. I have done that
with the set of DL&W '30's cars, and it wasn't a big deal. I replaced the
wheel sets with Kadee 36 inchers too, and while I had to bend out the side
frames so they would roll, the flanges are of course a lot smaller and could
operate on my model RR club.

For the trucks, if you don't mind spending the $20 +/- per car, the IHC
replacement trucks are really pretty nice, though you have to be careful.
Examine the trucks carefully in the bubble pack, and be sure that nothing is
broken. IHC replaced the broken truck I got but it was a bit of a hassle.
Also, don't assume that they are perfect right out of the package; one of
mine was not flat (rocked back and forth diagonally), but I was able to
correct that by just twisting the truck rather forcefully for a bit. Kinda
ham-handed approach, I suppose, but it worked.

The replacement trucks, being metal, provide some weight down low, which is
an advantage with these cars. I've been replacing trucks a pair at a time,
done three or four now, whenever I have a spare $20 (not too often!) and
there are some in front of me.
