Fred and the list: Yes, most railroads used either a 3 or 5 "dinner chime". The steward wou= ld walk the train, sound the chimes and say "Dinner is now being served in t= he diner, 2 (or whatever number) cars forward". = This was still being done as recently as 1990 on Via Rail Canada (and bilingual at that!). I have a set of chimes from the Monon. We use them for dinner on Christm= as Eve, Easter, etc. Would love to find a set from the Erie or DL&W!
