RE: (erielack) New Material - 22-28 Aug

Excellent observation, Dave! The photo that Dave is specifically referring
to is: http://gelwood.railfan.net/loco/el2408g.jpg

Looking through my collection, I'm now looking at a photo of 2404 brand-new.
Never noticed this before, but it has a PAIR OF SINGLE CHIME LESLIE HORNS
situated atop the fireman's side of the cab. They're back-to-back, but
separate horns.

It almost seems as if the two horns were moved so that their sound faced
*AWAY* from the cab. Maybe this was a way EL did noise abatement for its
crews? In the position that the 2408 (in the above photo) has its horns, the
noise in the cab would probably be minimal.

That's weird, though. When you think about it, all the later units
(SD45/SDP45/SD45-2) also had the bracket that pushed the "output end" of the
horns beyond the front cab face...

Anyone know for sure?
