Dear List, Of all the lists to which I su bscribe, the EL list is by far the most interesting and useful one. I immensely enjoy learning all about the history and operations of my favorite railroad! I have noticed that, perhaps necessarily so, that most of the posts here relate to operations east of Marion, OH. I have found that most books and magazine articles also deal with the East end. My memories of the Erie Lackawanna are far different. I grew up in Riverdale, IL, hard by the Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal; Indiana Harbor Belt; Pennsylvania (Panhandle/PCC&StL); New York Central (MC}; Rock Island; Grand Trunk Western; Illinois Central; Chicago & Western Indiana; and Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroads! Whew! The images I have, both in my memories and on film, are of long transfers from Hammond to Bensenville over the IHB with strings of E-Units and occasionally Alco PA's; Hot piggyback/UPS trains through Griffith behind SD45-2's; Alco S2's in premerger Erie paint kicking out cars along the Hammond Yard throat; and varnish behind twin PA's coming by the tower at State Line! This and much more is the essence of a very different Erie Lackawanna as it existed on the elusive west end. I would like to see more space here devoted to the history and operation of lines west. I have a fairly significant collection of photographs I have taken. I would also invite others to share their remembrances of life and times along the "other" EL. I hope to hear from others in this regard. Markers, J.E.
