Language, like everything, evolves. The H16-66 got the wide-spread name Baby
Train Master for obvious reasons -- same trucks as the Train Master on a
smaller-but-same-styled carbody. The C&NW's were examples, as is TVA's that
still runs at the Gallitin, Tn., plant.
Lackawanna men seemed to call the 931s the "little F-Ms" referencing the
Train Masters, but remember that the 931s showed up first, in 1951.
There was a time when calling the H16-44 a Baby Train Master would be like
calling the GP7 an SD7. It was unheard of in the 1960s and no editor would
accept it. But as we move further from the generation that had to live with
these units and knew the difference first hand, such usage seems to be
getting more and more loose.
