Trainorder signals were in use on the P&D until it was CTC-ed in the early 1980's as part of the M&E reelectrification project. At the end, I believe only Lyons issued trainorders, and I think it had a color light set up, not a semaphore blade. The agent-operators at most other P&D stations were removed in 1981- Millington, Basking Ridge, Bernardsville, Far Hills, Gladstone. But until then they did issue train orders when necessary, usually when a scheduled train meet had to be changed due to one or the other trains being late. The ABS signals indicated whether the block was occupied or not, but did not govern train authority, which was timetable/trainorder until the CTC was installed. >There are only a few amount of rare semaphore train order signals in NJ that >are still in existence today. Does anyone know >when the DL&W went to block? > ------------------------------------------------------------ Visit the erielack photopage at http://el-list.railfan.net ------------------------------
