(erielack) Calendar Observations: Derailment waiting to happen

Paul and List Members:

Speaking of things to notice on the calendar, take a look at June's photo
of the AC Tower crossing at Marion.

Notice on the N&W (formerly PRR) tracks that cross the EL's in the
picture, on the nearest set of N&W tracks and between the 2 EL tracks,
there is what appears to be a spike (or something looking like a spike)
extending upward from the nearest ( or right ) rail on the tracks. It
seems quite improbable that this spike could be held up on its pointed
side, but not being an expert on 2 sets of double track crossing each
other, whether there is another rail or some piece of hardware that could
hold this in place.

OR - could this be an optical illusion, with the apparatus either in front
of or behind the rail?

If you have trouble spotting this, drop a vertical line from the numbers on
the cab to the N& W track below.

If it is on the rail, could this cause a potential derailment?

I will await your comments.

Regards,

Chris Thurner
