Today's Morris County edition of the Newark Star-Ledger has two cover stories of interest to EL fans: 1. The large PVO plant (former Drew Chemical) in Boonton, NJ, has been sold (finally!) for $1.13 million. The town is hoping to bring in industry to this location. We'll see... maybe rail service will return once again? PVO bought the facility from Drew Chemical in 1971, according to the article, and shut down in the late 1970's. It was once a huge EL customer. 2. The saga of "tainted dirt over the Greenwood Lake" continues. The headline on the paper reads "Riverdale going to court to block rail depot." The depot they're referring to is the transfer point from dump truck to gondola located on the Greenwood Lake branch immediately north of Route 23. Today it's run by the NYS&W. The town of Riverdale is apparently upset that the dirt is being moved unknown to them. Of course, the transfer point is really in Pequannock, but they're not interested in fighting it, so Riverdale is. <sigh> We'll see what comes of this - they're trying to stop the trains, we'll see how much luck they have!
