I'm back! :)

The NYS&W, as far as I know, owns the GL branch all the way south to
Mountain View. They've restored it as far as Route 23 to service Morris
Pipe. I have to laugh at the tainted soil issue - the NYS&W was moving
tainted soil out of the former DuPont plant in Pompton Lakes, located on the
original NYS&W, a few years back. They've got some experience doing this!
What I can't understand is why they moved "evil dirt" from one location to
another, and now have to remove it and put it elsewhere? Duh! Is this
"musical chairs dirt" or something?

I don't see the gates at Pompton/Riverdale being a problem - I think they
still service Morris Pipe, and therefore do go south of that point. It would
certainly be nice to see them get the dirt contract, though it would make
more sense to restore the GL down to Mountain View and let CR/NS handle it
down that way...

By the way, I have photos of the heavily overgrown north end of the
currently-active part of the branch on the EL Photo Page
(http://el-list.railfan.net) - just go to the "Discovery Days" section and
look at the "Totowa" one...
