Rick,
Matt Forsyth here. I just recently finished up an Erie GP-9 #1265. This was
the last locomotive that the Erie ever bought. I didn't have a lot of luck
finding photos for detailing purposes either, but here are a few things you
might want to check on. Gerry Bernett's "Hard Coal Carriers" vol. 1 "Geeps"
is a good resource for Geep data in general. The only photos of a GP-9 are
in the EL section on page # 44. It's shown in G-M-Y but you do get to see
roof detail as well as end platform brake detail. Another shot can be seen
on page #55. This one is taken much closer so detail is easier to see;
#1260 and 1264 respectively. A second souce would be Larry DeYoung's "EL
in Color" vol.4. A photo of GP-9 # 1262 can be found on page # 53. Volume 2
of the same series has a couple of photos (small) of GP-9 # 1264 on pg. #47
and GP-9 # 1261 on pg. # 48. The only other thing that did have a GP-9
photo was Sweetland's "Erie RR in Color" but the unit appears in a lash up
with 3 GP-7's and is taken so far away that is not of much use. "Erie
Power" doesn't help much either. The other option would be to get ahold of
an outfit like RR Ave. Enterprises and see if they have a photo of one in
their collection. Chuck Yungkurth ("RAILDATA_@_aol.com") has a very large
collection of EL photos and may also have what you are loking for. Both of
them were able to help me with other projects when photos just could not be
found. I was able to do my Geep with the photos that I told you about, so
try that if you like. As far as decals go, I can't be of much help there
because I model O-scale and was able to get a set from champ. The only
thing that you might try would be to order the correct size yellow Erie
diamond (he has several sizes avail. seperately) and then use his yellow
decal stripes to do the rest. No matter where you get the decals from a
large amount of masking and painting of the yellow nose in required anyway.
There is no way that you are going to "decal" around the headlights etc.so
painting is the only option. Hope this helps you in you quest. Let me know
if I can offer any more assistance,
Matt
