RE: (erielack) Lackawanna Cutoff progress - News

In addition to the cutoff authorized by H.R. 2400:

Page 274 of the bill:
1. Restoration of passenger service on the "Northern Branch of the West
Shore Line"

(The project is not identified by any more details other than the short
title of the project. Maybe some Bergen County folks know more about
this.)

I assume that this is the Northern Branch of the Erie. The bill does not
specifically state how far north the station stops will go or how it
will terminate in Hoboken or elsewhere.

2. Light Rail connection between Newark Broad Street Lakawanna, Newark
Penn Station and Newark Airport is also included for funding.

Both items are part of "New Jersey Urban Core Project" authorized by the
bill. This bill overall is on the order of magnitude of the act which
created the Interstate highway system. It has more rail projects than
highways for the first time in US history for all states. Every
metropolitan area will be effected.

For the full text of the legislation (410 pages), go to :

At that web page you can get the document (H.R. 2400) as sent to the
President for signature. Click on PDF icon to retrieve what is called
the enrolled version of the bill. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to
decipher and display this file (1.49 meg, ouch!).Happy reading.
