We had a couple of hours of free time in the afternoon so we headed off to
Oak Harbor to see what was running on NS' ex-NYC Chicago Main.
We didn't get the elusive over-under shot with the W&LE overpass (I'll get it
sooner or later!) and just missed an eastbound by about 5 minutes.
As it turned out, we were bitten by the typical NS late afternoon lull after
catching two westbounds.

Out of a late afternoon mirage comes the westbound 21Z crossing Behlman Road, one mile off in the distance, getting ready to blow for the Rt. 19/Locust St. grade crossing near MP 266 in Oak Harbor.

NS C40-9W 9638 leads two sisters "Elephant Style" across the Rt. 19 grade crossing on the 21Z at 5:15 PM.

Just missed getting the track 1 signal into the shot, it's visible behind the front handrail on the lead unit. The bridge is NS' ex-W&LE line from Bellevue to Toledo. This was cropped from the one stop over bracket shot. This type of situation is where the D30 really shines, set your bracketting range and get the going away shot you might normally miss! We've moved down to the CP 266 signals at N. Benton St. for the westbound 21Q at 5:48 PM.
NS C40-9W 9187 leads the 9053 on 21Q past the Oak Harbor Depot and under the W&LE overpass. The one stop over bracket shot had better light, but a lens flare right in the middle of the 9187's nose!
